Mary Ann Gloe
Although I consider myself a watercolor artist, I allow myself to be sidetracked by oil, acrylic, fiber, collage or whatever medium intrigues me at a given moment. I’ve even been known to create in concrete, wood and metal as the muse moves me. But I always return to watercolor, perhaps because I enroll in a watercolor workshop each fall through the Iowa Watercolor Society. These 3-day workshops have become a lifeline to a medium that never ceases of challenge me. My subjects include landscapes, still lives and abstracted or stylized florals, foliage and birds and some totally non-representational works. I am a member of Iowa Artists, the Decorah Regional Arts Council, and a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and have served on the boards of all three organizations. I have won awards in shows throughout Iowa and am currently exhibiting at Agora Arts, Luther College Book Store and The Perfect Edge in Decorah, Iowa, and the Bluff Country Artists Gallery in Spring Grove, Minnesota. In addition, I hold an exhibit in my home and gardens, the “Summer Garden Art Show”, the last full weekend in July, and in November during Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend in December, “The Winter Woods Art Show. These shows include my works as well as the works of my circle of art friends. In October, I am part of the Northeast Iowa Studio Tour. My husband, Don, and I have lived most of our married life in scenic Decorah, Iowa.
